She regularly teaches workshops and lends her expertise at public speaking events. A classically trained artist, she received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2003. Since 2007, she has covered conflict, environmental, and human rights issues in Africa, the Middle East, and Western and Southeast Asia. Her writings and/or photographs have been published by the likes of The New York Times, The Montreal Gazette, Reuters, Internazionale, Handicap International, The International Labor Organization, Monocle, Silvershotz, Ekstrabladet, IRIN News, The Kathmandu Post, and Vice Magazine. She won 1st Place in the 2008 Black and White Spider Awards for her photo of a young mine victim in Afghanistan, was nominated for the 2009 UNICEF Photo of the Year contest, shortlisted for the 2009 Anthropographia Award, and her multimedia dispatch on the Kenyan Crisis has screened at major international photography and film festivals, including NY Photo Festival, and the Geneva Film Festival and International Forum on Human Rights. She speaks French and English fluently, and has a strong working knowledge of Spanish.
